Does Size Matter?

We have all heard the question “does size matter?”. When it comes to learning, size does matter. Too much information can lead to cognitive overload. Not enough information can result in little learning and wasted time. The key to success is providing the just right amount of information keep the learner engaged and able to retain valuable knowledge.

Have you ever taken a professional development course? If so, did you encounter any of the following issues?

  • hours were not convenient for your schedule

  • location was out-of-the-way

  • costs were not conducive to your budget

  • the instructor was not engaging

  • the pace of the course was either too fast or slow for your comprehension

  • it was hard to determine how the information applied to your work

We all need professional development to keep up with the latest best practices or refresh our knowledge on content that we learned years ago. But, does the thought of adding training to your busy schedule make you cringe? Would you like the opportunity to do training based on your unique needs and schedule? If so, microlearning is your dream come true. What precisely, microlearning?

What precisely is microlearning? Microlearning takes the content and chunks it into bite-size pieces. Think about it! Instead of eating a full candy bar, you can indulge in a fun-size bite. You can get the flavor you are craving and eat as much or as a little as you want. The same goes for microlearning; you can get as much or as little of the content you want based on your schedule. Microlearning can appear in different formats like short readings, videos, audio recordings, and online courses.

Athena Scholastic understands how busy educators are, trying to balance school and home responsibilities, so we created the Educator Success Microlearning Program. The program consists of courses take relevant content and chunks it into bite-sized responsive courses that take approximately 15 to 30 minutes to complete. Each course is responsive, researched-based, uses pedagogical best practices, and includes activities and assessments. Knowledge gained from these courses will increase student achievement.

Size does matter when it comes to learning. Microlearning courses allow you to customize your professional development experience to your schedule and learning needs.
